Twilang area in Kangpokpi district continues to witness multiple landslides and earth cracks due to the incessant rainfall, posing serious threat to the general public. The rainfall has also disrupted the ongoing clearance work by the Joint Monitoring Development Committee (JDMC) on IT Road.

According to the JMDC, another landslide reoccurred at Gelnal village Tuesday night after the previous one was cleared earlier during the day. Owing to its risky condition to clear it immediately, the JMDC decided to clear it later, the committee informed.

The JMDC was also pressed again to clear the landslide at Govajang where many vehicles of the Army from Tamei were stranded the whole night.

The continuous rainfall also resulted in swelling of small streams, creating havoc for many residents at Chalwa village, rendering most of them even unable to cook food and sleep at night as water started to flow inside their residential houses.

The incessant rainfall also disrupted the ongoing landslide clearance work executed by the JMDC between Govajang and T Vaichong Sub Divisional Headquarters while four more locations are also yet to be cleared owing to the continuous rainfall as it poses heavy danger to the workers.

Taking stock of the weather condition, the JMDC informed the general public that clearance of landslides could resume in a day or two, depending on the weather condition.

It also informed that the oil supply for clearing the landslides is almost out of stock and there is a shortage of funds while there appears to be no sign of improvement with the continuous rainfall as landslides occur in multiple locations after every two to three hours.

It further informed that precautions should be taken between Govajang and T Vaichong Sub Divisional Headquarters as it is very much vulnerable to landslides.

The JMDC also said that as there will be no clearance work for the time being, public traveling along the Imphal-Tamenglong route should be at their own risk while seeking cooperation from the public.

Meanwhile, the landslides have also reportedly triggered earth cracks along Thonglang-Senapati road at Thonglang Akutpa completely cutting off the area from the rest of the world.
