Employees of MSPDCL and MSPCL under the banner of the Manipur Electricity Employees’ Union (MEEU) on Friday staged a sit-in protest at their office campus in Imphal, demanding implementation of the 7th revised pay rules (ROP).
Several requests have be made to the authorities concerned and an MoU have been also signed between the officials of Power department and representatives of MEEU on December 17, 2020 regarding the implementation of the pay scale; however, no positive outcome has materialized till date, said MEEU president RK Shivchandra while speaking to the media.
Electricity being an essential service, the employees of MSPDCL and MSPCL have been working round the clock in every corner of the state, he said, appealing to the state government to recognise and acknowledge their struggle and hard work.
Considering the contributions by the employees, the state government ought to reward the employees of MSPDCL and MSPCL by providing facility of 13 months’ salary every year like the security forces are being provided, he added.
Asserting that the employees are facing lots of financial issues due to payment of their small amount of salary after every three months, the president appealed to the authority concerned to pay their salary on a monthly basis.
MEEU general secretary Takhelambam Shyamnagor supplemented that the sit-in protest will continue till Saturday.
Failure to redress their grievances within Saturday will compel the MEEU to take up intense forms of agitations such as shutting down of electricity prepaid counters, he cautioned.
The general secretary further appealed to the authority concerned to act immediately to avoid any sorts of confrontation as early as possible in the best interest of the employees as well as the public
