Drawing the attention of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, president of Tulihal Idiqah Youth Development Organisation, Abdul Malik Meraimayum, has demanded including Meitei Pangals in the scheduled tribe list.
Malik made the demand on the sideline of a one-day sit-in-protest staged at Yairipok Tulihal, Imphal East on Friday.
The protest was organised by Meitei Pangal Schedule Tribe Demand Committee (MPSTDC).
He said the demand to include Meitei Pangal in the scheduled tribe list is a legitimate demand as the population of the community is becoming vulnerable.
Malik said the relationship between the Meitei community and Meitei Pangal had been a long-term relationship.
He said, the Meitei Pangal trust the chief minister would consider their demand.
