Members of Kuki Independent Army (KIA), a non SoO group, who were involved in extorting money from chiefs of different villages of Churachandpur district were arrested by Churachandpur police on Wednesday.
District police stated that based on a tip-off, Churachandpur police arrested one Thangminlal Simte, 25, son of late Siamgin from Gouthang Village in Henglep. He was arrested at Old Bazaar Churachandpur at around 1 pm on Wednesday, it added.

The police also seized a sum of Rs 20,000 which was believed to be a part of the extorted money from chiefs of different villages in Churachandpur, it mentioned.
It continued that based on the disclosure of Thangminlal, the police also arrested his senior cadre Thangkhomang Haokip, 39, son of Hemjangam Haokip from Gouthang Village. Thangkhomang Haokip was arrested from Renkai road near Barber shop along with a sum of Rs 15,000 which was believed to be part of the extorted money as well, it added.
Based on the disclosure of the two arrested individuals, the police also arrested one more KIA member namely Letminthang Haokip, 37, son of Lunkhopao Haokip from Munnoum Village from his residence, it stated.
