Month-long commemoration of martyrs underway

The Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board launched a month-long programme to pay tributes to the ones who lost their lives in the present crisis in Manipur.

The Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board has launched a month-long programme to pay tributes to the ones who gave their lives and became martyrs during the prevailing crisis.

The programme began on Saturday at Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board complex located at Hayingkhongbal near 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion campus in Imphal on Saturday.

The programme will continue the whole month of ‘Langban’ as per the Meitei lunar calendar.

On the first day of the programme, floral tributes and fruits were offered to the 56 persons who lost their lives in the present turmoil. Family members of the victims and others also took part at the event.

Member secretary of Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board Maisnam Shivadutta Luwang said for every year starting from ‘Purnima’ (full moon) of ‘Langban’, similar programmes are being organised in the temple.

After consulting with the scholars of the temple, the board decided to organise the programme in honour of the martyrs for the entire month of ‘Langban’, he said.
