Miscreants fired several rounds of bullets at a residence around 12:30 am on Friday at Yairipok Changamdabi Mathak Leikai under Andro Police Station in Imphal East, during which a woman who was sleeping on a bed was injured. No casualty has been reported.
The injured woman, Bembem, 35, wife of Md Abdul Gaffar alias Nahamu was rushed to JNIMS for treatment. A bullet hit her hand while she was sleeping. A case has been registered at Andro Police Station concerning the incident.
Condemning the incident, a sit-in protest was carried out at the Changamdabi Mathak Leikai Community Hall on Friday.
President Changamdabi Muhammadan Club (CMC) Md Anish Shah expressed that the residents of the locality and CMC Changamdabi vehemently condemn the act of opening fire towards a congested, residential area while people were sleeping.
He demanded that those responsible for the act must immediately come out with an explanation.
The state Home department must book the culprits at the earliest and provide appropriate punishment; he further said and drew the attention of the chief minister.
Unless the culprits are arrested at the earliest, CMC Changamdabi along with the locals and the civil organisations of the state will launch several forms of agitations, he added.
During the sit-in-protest, placards that read, ‘we condemn the gunfire at residences’, ‘Do not terrorise the innocent civilians’, ‘book the culprits’ were displayed.
