After almost 12 years of a suicide case of a minor, a charge sheet has been finally submitted against the accused under section 306 IPC for abetment of suicide.
A 15-year-old girl was found hanged to death on September 12, 2011 in her house in Imphal West district. A complaint was lodged by her family at Kakching PS but was taken up under an unnatural death case under section 174 CrPC and it was later converted into a regular FIR under section 306IPC.
It was reported that the minor girl was in a relationship with a guy named Dipin, 25 years old, from Sekmaijin, Thoubal district and that they had physical relationship leading to pregnancy of the minor girl.
Reportedly, Dipin forced her to take medicine to terminate the pregnancy. The incident was reportedly shared with her friends and that a suicide note was also found from her bedroom.
Mother of the minor also lodged a complaint to Manipur State Commission for Women, however, she deposed the complaint on December, 16, 2013 stating that the accused in the FIR case was arrested on September 18, 2011 and on interrogation, he had stated that he was in a relaionship with the minor and had several sexual relationships and that the victim was pregnant but aborted it using tablet under strong influence.
The mother also reportedly stated that the girl recused the accused to elope on several occasions but the accused refused her proposal and thus, she committed suicide by hanging on the day of occurrence. Medical report also reveal that the cause of death is due to suicide.
In the year 2019, the Women Action for Development filed a complaint for submission of the status report regarding the case to the Manipur Human Rights Commission.
The MHRC issued notice to the DGP, Manipur, for submission of the status report. The OC of the Hiyanglam PS submitted the status report through SP Kakching district that the charge sheet has been filed against the accused.
The OC of the Hiyanglam PS appeared personally before the MHRC and informed them regarding the filing of the charge sheet.
