Meiteis vote at Pallel High School amid tight security

Pallel High School is surrounded by Kuki villages in Molnoi area and Meiteis have not been able to enter the area since the ongoing violence in Manipur erupted.

Meitei voters went to cast their votes at Pallel High School in Kakching district, where Kuki militants carried out an attack on September 8, 2023 during the ongoing violence which erupted in Manipur on May 3, 2023.

Voters of polling stations 37/25 and 37/26 of Kakching district exercised their rights in the first phase of the 18th Lok Sabha election on Friday for the Outer Manipur parliamentary election.

Security personnels were on strict vigil for the safety of Meitei voters who came to vote in the Kuki dominated area.

Pallel High School is surrounded by Kuki villages in Molnoi area and Meiteis have not been able to enter the area since the ongoing violence in the state erupted. People of Pallel came out to cast their votes starting early morning.

A Meitei woman voter expressed her contentment on being able to come to a Kuki dominated area to cast their votes after a long time as they have not been able to enter the area due to the ongoing violence. Some other women voters also said that they did not face any fear while voting due to tight security and their safety was ensured.

Out of 657 voters of 37/25, 448 people turnout to cast their votes and out of 467 voters of 37/26, 351 voters came out to cast their votes.
