Meira Paibis rescue family of three

A family of three was kidnapped by unknown miscreants on their way to the fields.

Meira Paibis of Yairipok Khoirom Mathak Leikai rescued a family of three who were allegedly kidnapped by unknown miscreants and were handed over to their family members on Thursday.

The family from Yairipok Kakmayai was allegedly kidnapped by unknown miscreants while on their way to the fields. They were rescued near Khoirom Mathak Chingya canal at around 1.30 pm.

The three are 46-year-old Tongbram Ibomcha, son of Naba, Ibomcha’s wife Tongbram Ongbi Mary Vaiphei, 38 and their nine-year-old daughter Sylvia Devi.

As per sources, it is believed that the family was kidnapped by the unknown miscreants as Mary is from the Vaiphei (Kuki) community married to a Meitei and under she might be an informer.

SP Thoubal S Sachidananda came to the area to look into the incident. Meira Paibis handed over the family to CDO Thoubal OC Inspector Nitaranjan and later handed over to their family members in Kakmayai.

Meira Paibis leader Akoijam Chitreshwori said that the state has been facing unrest since May 3. She appealed to the people not to spread and believe in rumours during unfortunate times.
