‘Mastermind’ vehicle lifter, associate arrested; one vehicle recovered

The ‘mastermind’ vehicle lifter was arrested from his residence by a team of Imphal West district commando at around 12.30 pm acting on reliable information received by the team.

A team of Imphal West district commando arrested one ‘mastermind’ vehicle lifter along with an associate on Saturday and recovered a stolen Maruti EECO van from their possession.

The ‘mastermind’ vehicle lifter has been identified as one Md Abdul Wahid, 27, son of Md Abdul Manal of Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok Chingol and his associate Md Abdul Hakim, 35, son of (L) Md Zaheruddin from Lilong Chingkham Makha Dam area.

Abdul Wahid was arrested from his residence by the commando team at around 12.30 pm acting on reliable information received by the team.

During preliminary verification, he disclosed that he bought stolen vehicles from different persons namely Md Imtiyaz of Lilong Dam Makha; Md Mosil of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai and MD Saroj of Lilong Mayai Leikai and sold the stolen vehicles to Seikholen Haokip alias Momo of Sora Langol Lou village under the jurisdiction of Machi police station.

Wahid further disclosed that he possesses a stolen grey-colour Maruti EECO van bearing registration number TN05-AX 7995 which was handed over to him by one Md Abdul Hakim of Lilong dam.

One Maruti EECO van; one mobile handset without SIM card; one photocopy each of registration card, PAN card; three photocopies of Aadhaar card and photocopies of one of sale deed, one Form 30; one declaration of sale of vehicle; one ICICI insurance note were recovered from his possession.

The arrested person along with the seizures have been handed over to Lilong police station for further necessary legal action on the same day.

On follow up action of the same case registered at Lilong police station, a team of district commando, Imphal West arrested Hakim, who is the associate of Wahid and involved in illegitimate business of dealing stolen vehicles, from in front of Lilong police station along Imphal-Moreh highway (NH-102) at around 7.10 pm on the same day.

Two mobile phones were recovered from his possession. Later, he was handed over to Lilong police station for further investigation.
