The Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) on Thursday observed the National Mathematics Day as part of the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan at the premises of MASTEC Complex, Takyel.
The function started with a written maths quiz participated by more than 100 students from different parts of the state and was followed by the distribution of the State Science Communicator award 2022, which was presented to Dr Oinam Joychandra Singh for his book “Layengliba Ananbasingna Khangjinbada Kanaba”.
This was followed by the distribution of the Dr Ibeyaima Innovation Award 2022, donated by the Manipuri Association of Canada (MAC) in memory of Dr Hijam Ibeyaima Devi. It was presented to three winners viz Jina khuraijam for Ma-Ngal Homemade Soap, Dr Wangkheirakpam Sujata for her works in Novel Method of separation and isolation of indirubin from strobilanthes flaccidifolius leaves and Shrimayum Gita Devi for Innovative designs of traditional jewellery and ornaments of Meitei Women of Manipur (Made from Cocoon). Prizes were also distributed to the students who won the written quiz competition earlier in the afternoon.
Dr Minaketan Singh, Director of MASTEC also announced a four days event from January 13-16 featuring Mathematics Model Exhibition-cum-competition for students of Class VIII-X, Mathematics Competition for students of Class III, IV, V, VI, VII and VIII, Mathematics Origami, Mathematics Puzzle Show, Lecture-cum-demonstration etc. He also appealed to the students to not rely on coaching and tuition but instead focus on self-study and on becoming more successful mathematicians.
