The closing function of the five-day National Science Day celebration organised by Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) in association with STFM, MAPS, MASCA and GENIM was held at MASTEC complex, Takyelpat on Saturday.
Former vice chancellor of Manipur University professor C Amuba Singh, Science and Technology commissioner M Yaiskul Meitei and MASTEC director L Minaketan Singh among others attended the concluding function which was held under the theme ‘Global Science for Global well-being’.
Speaking on the occasion, MASTEC Scientific officer and coordinator of the five-day programme Chanam Sarat Singh stated that the five-day celebration was filled with different activities to promote the popularity of science among young students. He highlighted that various competitions which included spot painting, science drama, quiz, declamation and many more were organised to inculcate scientific curiosity in students.
“The competition was organised for students from classes 3-12 by dividing them into various age categories,” he said. Sarat pointed out that the science exhibition was also included in the competition section.
He mentioned that online interactions with different Manipuri scientists working in renowned research and development institutes across the country were also organised. Scientists from Bhabha Atomic Research, IIT Guwahati, ICAR, IFC Bangalore and others took part in the interactions, he added.
Chanam Sarat highlighted that National Science Day has been observed to honour the day ‘Raman Effect’ was invented by Indian Nobel laureate CV Raman. He maintained that students from around 40 different schools across the state and nearly 2,000 visiting participants took part in the 5-day programme.
Prizes for students who secured top positions in different competitions were also distributed during the event.
