Emphasising the significance of the upcoming Lok Sabha election as a decisive moment for the fate of Manipur, inner parliamentary candidate professor Bimol Akoijam on Monday urged the public to rise from the divisive policy played by the government and choose the rightful candidate.
“Manipur no longer needs to observe the Patriots’ Day or Khongjom Lal Day if voters are carried away by money and muscle power like the past elections. So, now is the time for Manipur to rise, or it will never be,” he said.
Taking the central stage, Bimol was speaking during a reception ceremony arranged to welcome the newly joined ex-MLAs and political activities into the Congress party.
The professor called on the people of Manipur to take this election as a usual election, but as a last stand to save Manipur.
Talking about the ongoing Manipur crisis, he contended, “It is the unwillingness, not inability, which prevents the government from curbing the crisis.”
Instead of controlling and reversing the crisis, polarisation is occurring where two communities are made to blame among themselves, he said, adding the people of Manipur need to come out from this decisive policy played by the government.
Stating that the INDIA bloc of Manipur has sacrificed all its candidates to save Manipur and they have even handed him to the public as a public’s candidate, Bimol urged the people of Manipur to vote for their motherland.
Some of the personalities who joined Congress on Monday are ex-MLA Elangbam Chand Singh; ex-candidate Sagolsem Achouba Singh; Advocate Oinam Hemanta Singh ex-President MUSU and ex-Youth President Federal Party Manipur; and Thoudam Devadutta Singh son of former minister Th Devendra.
The programme also witnessed the presence of CLP leader O Ibobi, CWC member Gaikhangam, MPCC president K Meghachandra among other MLAs and office bearers of MPCC.
