Women led the final voter turnout in the repoll of two polling stations at 3-Khurai Assembly Constituency in Imphal East on Monday.

The two polling stations include Moirangkampu Sajeb Upper Primary School (3/11) in Moirangkampu Sajeb Awang Leikai and S Ibobi Primary School (3/21) in Khurai Thongam Leikai.

Compared to the original first phase elections on April 19, the repoll on Monday was conducted smoothly except for one reported incident of intimidation at polling station 3/21.

In Moirangkampu, out of 942 total voters 773 voters exercised their adult franchise. The vote layout reflected 409 female voters against 362 male voters totalling to a voting percentage of 82.06 per cent.

Meanwhile, one voter Khoisnam Sanayaima, 75, son of (L) Kh Abung of Moirang Kampu Sajeb Maning Leikai was not able to cast his vote due to the bullet wounds he sustained during the first phase election at polling 3/11 on April 19.

According to Booth Level Officer (BLO) Soubam Surbala Devi, there were no special arrangement made for Sanayaima to cast his vote.

"If he wants to exercise his rights he must do so filing applications to Election Commission of India. For now, he will lose his rights due to his condition," she said.

INC candidate Angomcha Bimol Akoijam also visited the station to inspect the proceedings at the polling station.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the visit, he stated that the numerous untoward incidents reported during first phase polls on April 19 displayed severe lack of responsibility from the government.

"How can all those incidents take place under the watchful eyes of the authority. This will lead people to think otherwise," he said.

He wished such actions would not be repeated in the outer polls.

Meanwhile, a first time voter, 21-year-old Wakabam Hilary Chanu, expressed discontentment over the entire debacle which unfolded during the first phase polls.

The entire incident was a harrowing experience, she added.

She highlighted that she wanted an able, well-read leader to represent the people of Manipur in Lok Sabha and wished that the election results would reflect so.

In Khurai Thongam Leikai, out of 1,004 voters, 800 exercised their franchise which included 430 female voters and 369 male voters. The voting percentage of polling station 3/21 amounted to 79.68 per cent.

It maybe mentioned a total of 369 voters did not cast their re-poll votes for Khurai Assembly Constituency.
