Manipur Unrest: Womenfolk protest Moreh attacks

One IRB jawan, W Somorjit, was shot dead reportedly by a sniper in Moreh on Wednesday.

After one personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion was killed in Moreh on Wednesday following a series of attacks by suspected Kuki militants, the womenfolk of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai Meira Paibi protested by blocking eastern side of Tiddim road at Kwakeithel Junction, Imphal West.

They also demanded proper weapons and order to retaliate against the attack of Kuki militants at Moreh.

The IRB jawan, W Somorjit, was shot dead reportedly by a sniper injuring his neck at the border town Moreh on Wednesday morning.

Secretary of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai Meira Paibi, Bachaspatimayum Shantarani said during the attack of suspected Kuki militants towards state police, Somorjit was shot dead and the state government is not issuing any order to retaliate.

The state government should issue proper weapon and order to retaliate against any kind of attack towards the state force. With this demand, the womenfolk are demonstrating the protest by blocking Tiddim Road, she added.

If the violence continue further then the Kwakeithel Akham Leikai Meira Paibi is ready to continue various forms of intensified agitation, she cautioned.

Meanwhile, following the sudden blockage of Tiddim road, commuters faced traffic congestion at Kwakeithel Junction.

Women vendors of Khwairamband Ima Market also demonstrated a candle light protest at Khwairamband Ima Market.
