Manipur Unrest: Vehicular movement resumes on National Highway-37

Vehicular movement along National Highway-37 resumed on Monday after remaining suspended due to a massive landslide triggered by continuous rainfall near Khongsang-Noney area.

Vehicular movement along National Highway-37 resumed on Monday after remaining suspended due to a massive landslide triggered by continuous rainfall near Khongsang-Noney area on the intervening night of August 13 and 14, sources said.

The sources said commercial vehicles stranded along the highway were allowed to move after the authorities managed to clear the landslide debris, resuming normal operations for two-way traffic.

NHIDCL officials have been working day and night to restore connectivity on the highway. Efforts were also made to send empty trucks from Imphal to Jiribam on Sunday to fetch essential commodities, the sources added.

Meanwhile, a total of 167 goods trucks, including oil tankers and gas bullets arriving from Jiribam, which halted at Noney on Sunday night, left for Imphal early Monday morning.
