Representatives of the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People's Front (UPF) who signed the tripartite SoO met convenor of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday.
Kuki National Organisation (KNO) spokesperson Seilen Haokip told a national media channel in a telephonic conversation that the meeting with the NEDA convenor was fruitful.
KNO is a conglomeration of various armed group and is under suspension of operation with the Union government. He said the meeting was conducted in the right direction to avoid any offenses from either side which is Meitei and Kuki.
During the meeting, KNO requested that central forces be stationed at suspected vulnerable places to contain the violence and firing.
He alleged that about 200 armed Meitei villagers are trying to penetrate at Khamenlok, Saikul assembly constituency.
He said the Gurkha Regiments posted there also stepped aside as womenfolk in the area are blocking the road heading to the firing spot.
“We are in favour of the initiatives taken by the Union Home Minister and CM of Assam if it is going to stop offensive firing, and CSOs in Imphal should agree to it,” he added.
