The alleged failure of the Manipur government to arrange an all-political party meeting with the Central leaders has compelled 10 like-minded political parties from Manipur to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the PM's intervention for restoration of normalcy at the earliest.

In a joint effort to restore normalcy in Manipur, a meeting of the 10 political parties (INC, CPI, CPI-M, JD-U, AIFB, RSP, SS-UBT, TMC, NCP and APP) was held on Friday at Congress Bhawan in Imphal.

During the meeting, chaired by the president of MPCC K Meghachandra, it was decided to seek the Prime Minister's intervention in restoring normalcy in Manipur at the earliest.

The meeting also resolved to urge the state government to convene a special session in the Manipur Legislative Assembly for a detailed discussion on the ongoing unrest.

Expressing their disappointment, the political parties collectively condemned the PM's silence on the present situation in Manipur for over 36 days.

Speaking on behalf of the 10 political parties to the media, CLP leader O Ibobi said, despite being able to promptly address incidents in larger states, the lack of response from the Prime Minister's office gave the impression that Manipur is being neglected by the Central government, which is considered the parent of the state.

He also emphasised that while the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah was appreciated, Manipur continued to suffer from unabated unrest and persistent reports of violence.

Ibobi further expressed the view that if the central government had intervened in a timely manner, the crisis could have been resolved much earlier.
