Manipur: Suspected brown sugar seized

The suspected brown sugar weighed 421.60 grams.

Senapati District Police apprehended a man in possession of suspected brown sugar while conducting frisking checking near Martyr’s Park, Mao about 2 km south from Senapati police station around 4 pm on Tuesday.

The police apprehended the man and the items from one white colour Tata-Yodha bearing Regd. No. MN03A-7089 coming from the Senapati side towards Nagaland. The driver of the vehicle is identified as Songkhanching Haokip, 36, son of Nejahoi Haokip of Chassad Village, Ukhrul district.

On checking the vehicle, 35 cases of suspected brown sugar were found concealed on the upper hood body cover under Tarpaulin.

DC Senapati has been intimated and a request was made to depute one Magistrate, accordingly ADM/MAO Ningreingam Leisan (Executive Magistrate) was deputed for doing the necessary procedures. The vehicle was thoroughly checked in presence of the magistrate. The suspected brown sugar weighed 421.60 grams without the weight of the soap cases, said the reports.

The 35 soap cases of suspected brown sugar were seized in the presence of the Executive Magistrate and witnesses by preparing a formal seizure memo.

The seized items include the white colour Tata Yodha along with key and one Aadhaar card of the driver bearing number 486406249319. The detained person was formally arrested at 4.10 pm by observing formalities. A case has also been taken up.
