Top Khongnangkhong bridge located at Imphal East district constructed on Iril river is in vulnerable condition as both the approach slabs have started going down.
General secretary Youth Progressive Organisation (YPO), Bengoon Awang Leikai, Mujibur Pahman who came to inspect the bridge, told the media that the condition of the bridge, which is around 35 years old, has become more vulnerable with the raising level of water due to continuous rainfall for the last few days.
Cracks are also appearing at the slabs of the bridge due to frequent passing of heavy and loaded vehicles. Besides, the intake pump constructed near the bridge under ‘Manipur Water Supply Project’ has also become vulnerable, he added.
