Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the campaign, JNIMS director L Deben declared his support for the ST demand poster campaign and maintained that the movement was crucial for equal development in Manipur.

“The JNIMS authority extends their full support to the demand. The demand is crucial at this juncture and will ensure the survival of the Meitei community,” he said.

He also stated that other communities residing in Manipur should also extend their approval for the demand as it was a constitutionally rightful demand.

“It will promote equality among all communities which in turn will have a positive impact on the development and prosperity of Manipur,” he said.

Meanwhile, the president of the Meetei Tribe Union Mutum Churamani exhorted people to extend their support to the demand and highlighted that individuals would be sent a simple questionnaire after leaving a missed call on the provided number.

“The caller will have to fill up the questionnaire and send it back to the number after completion. We are expecting no less than five lakh people in the campaign,” he said.

He added that the campaign would aid in mounting pressure on the government regarding the demand and maintained that the success of the campaign would reflect the collective desire of the people.

He exuded confidence that the Meiteis could be enlisted in the ST list if the campaign garnered mass support.
