The 130th raising day of Manipur police was held at the Parade Ground of 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles on Tuesday with Chief Minister N Biren Singh as chief guest of the celebration.
During the function, the chief minister appreciated Manipur Police for their immense contribution in restoring peace and tranquility in the state and putting their relentless efforts to control drug menace under 'War on Drugs' mission initiated by the state government.
Cabinet ministers, MLAs, DGP and other top police officials also attended the function.
Biren said that police service is quite challenging by serving the state day and night without any fear. The law and order of the state has improved tremendously in the last four and half years and reaching this stage of peaceful atmosphere has not been an easy process.
The sacrifices made by police personnel during COVID-19 pandemic are also highly commendable, he added.
Stating about drug menace in the state, he said that Manipur police is putting their maximum efforts to eradicate the issue of drugs in the state. The department never compromised on the drug issue and action was taken up even against the cops who were involved in any drug case.
Regarding traffic regulation in the state, the CM appealed to the senior officers to tighten the traffic system. He also urged the people of the state to extend their cooperation in maintaining traffic rules and wear seatbelt while driving. Anyone who violates the traffic rules should be punished.
As a part of the programme, the chief minister also distributed awards, trophies and commendations to police officers on the occasion.
7th Battalion Manipur Rifles commandant T Lalboi Haokip received DGP Running Trophy for the Best Battalion 2021 with a cash reward of Rs 15,000 and a DGP Commendation Certificate; 8th Indian Reserve Battalion commandant, Rashini Yengkhom received Second Best Battalion 2021 with Rs 10,000 cash and a DGP Commendation Certificate; and 8th Battalion Manipur Rifles deputy commandant, Thingnam Deshorjit received Third Best Battalion 2021 consisting a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a DGP Commendation Certificate.
Officer-in-charge of Khongjom Police Station, inspector Kangjam Santosh received a cash reward of Rs 15,000 and a commendation certificate for Best Police Station 2021; officer-in-charge of Jiribam Police Station, inspector Laishram Khogen received a cash reward of Rs 10,000 and a commendation certificate for Second Best Police Station 2021; and officer-in-charge of City Police Station, inspector Maibam Sudhirkumar Meitei received a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a commendation certificate.
Officer-in-charge of Shangshak Police Station, Ukhrul District, inspector Hopeson Chiphang received the Best Police Officer 2021 award with a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a commendation certificate.
The DGP Commendation Roll and Disc for different units were received by IGP (Administration) IK Muivah, IGP (Zone-III) Lunsieh Kipgen, IGP (Zone-I and Zone-II) K Jayanta, IGP (Intelligence) K Radhashyam, and IGP (AP/Ops) Elangbam Priyokumar.
On the occasion, the chief minister released a souvenir highlighting the various achievements of the Manipur Police department in the last one year.
Meanwhile, as part of the 130th raising day of Manipur police, a ‘mega marathon competition’ was organised by Nungba Police Station. Around 60 individuals from the Nungba area took part in the mega marathon which started from Rengpang to Nungba Bazaar.
Thiamthailung Kamei of Nungba Part-1, Gaijinlung Phaomei of Nungba Part-V and Lungkuga Gangmei of Nungba Part-IV stood first, second and third positions respectively in the mega marathon. Cash prizes with certificates and trophies were given to the winner and runners-up.
