As a part of the initiatives taken up by the state government to keep the city clean, caretaker mayor of IMC L Lokeshwor had earlier announced through the media that people should not dump wastes at certain ‘black spots’ in the city. He urged the public to enrol for door-to-door waste collection instead.

Necessary drives will be launched to monitor the ‘black spots’ and necessary action will be taken up as per law against those found disposing wastes at illegal areas, he said.

Speaking to media on the sideline of the drive, L Lokeshwor said the drive was conducted with the aim to maintain cleanliness in Imphal city. IMC alone cannot make a clean Imphal City without support from the public, he added.

Similar drives will be conducted in the coming days ahead at different areas under the jurisdiction of IMC, he further said. He further appealed to the public to support and cooperate with the initiatives taken by the IMC.

As per law, a fine of Rs 500 will be charged if any ‘black spot’ waste disposer is caught during the drive, he added.

Lokeshwor had also announced earlier that the IMC mobile team will be monitoring round the clock to prevent ‘black spot’ waste disposal. To monitor waste disposers, four motorcycles were distributed to the IMC staff last year.
