Manipur Legislative Assembly Museum and Archives foundation day 2022 celebrated

The fourth foundation day of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Museum and Archives was celebrated at Old Manipur Legislative Assembly building, Imphal West on Tuesday.

Commemorating the first sitting of assembly session as a democratic country among the South East Asian countries, the fourth foundation day of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Museum and Archives was celebrated at Old Manipur Legislative Assembly building, Imphal West on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, RDPR Minister Y Khemchand Singh said that before the merger to India, a constitution was adopted on September 10, 1948 for Manipur before the Indian Constitution was adopted.

On October 18, 1948 a gazette notification was issued by Maharaja Budhachandra as the first sitting and the then Maharaja introduced Manipur State Constitution Act, 1947 on September 18, 1948, he said.

He said the people of Manipur should be proud of the day as October 18 is the day where the first sitting of assembly was held.

Khemchand informed that in Parliament there is a museum and archives which have many historic items related to the Indian democracy.

Likewise, more historic items need to be kept at the Manipur Legislative Assembly Museum and Archives. He opined that for maintenance of the historic items kept in the museum, the Manipur government need to initiate necessary steps, including sanctioning of a separate budget for the museum.

Secretary, Manipur Legislative Assembly, Karam Meghajit Singh said during the next anniversary, Manipur Legislative Assembly will be organising the platinum jubilee and will be observed for five-six days.

He also appealed to the government to construct a Manipur Legislative Assembly guest house at Moreh town. For the feasibility of women staff of Manipur Legislative Assembly, a crèche centre will be installed at Manipur Legislative Assembly.

As a part of the function, a souvenir, list of elected/nominated members from Pre-Merger to 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly (1948-2022) was released.

MLA, Thokchom Lokeshwar; MLA and K Ibomcha also attended the function as dais members.
