Manipur: Job card holders stage rally demanding pending dues

Hundreds of job card holders under MGNREGS Tamenglong on Thursday staged a mass rally demanding the release of pending bills under MGNREGS fund.

The mass rally started from Haipou Jadonang Park Tamenglong and marched towards the main bazaar and ended at Apollo bazaar. Meanwhile, chairmen and secretaries of village authorities went down to the Mini Secretariat, Tamenglong and submitted a memorandum to CM Biren through the deputy commissioner of Tamenglong.

The rallyists held spades, knives, shovels, placards and shouted various slogans like “release pending dues, “MGNREGS wages pithok o”, Stop misusing MGNREGS fund, etc.

The memo which was made available to media persons stated that Tamenglong District has been endeavoring MGNREGS welfare schemes to a certain height of implementation since its inception.

However, the delay in disbursement of MGNREGS scheme in Manipur have led to the financial stress to every rural poor worker of Tamenglong District and Manipur at large, the memo stated.

Moreover, the conflicting issues between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo too has shattered every ethnic community to a very devastating state of chaos leading to serious financial instability to the people, the memo stated.

Further, the memo pointed out that, it is also pertinent to mention that MORD had sanctioned to the payment of Grants-in-aid amounting to Rs 330,13,64,000 to the state government of Imphal, the August 4, 2023 (enclosed copy for reference) to our surprised.

“Therefore, considering our dire necessity and consequent impact of hardships, the Village Authority Chairmen Council and Chairmen & Secretaries Association Tamenglong District appeals to the authority concerned to kindly envelope us for progression by releasing all pending liabilities/dues of MGNREGS”, the memo said.

Meanwhile, speaking to a local news channel, Tamenglong village authority chairman council president Namsulung Gonmei said that if the voice of the people is not heard, serious agitations will be launched and the state government is responsible for any untoward incident.

The mass rally was organised by village authority chairman council Tamenglong, village authority chairman council Tousem, village authority chairman council Tamei, chairman and secretaries association Tamenglong.

All shops and markets were closed during the mass rally.

The same rally was also held in Noney district headquarters organised by Villages Council Longmai Area (VCLA), Noney District.

A Memorandum was also submitted to the chief minister of Manipur through the Deputy Commissioner Noney by the leaders of Villages Council Longmai Area (VCLA).
