Manipur: Heroin powder seized, three women arrested

The Manipur police seized 43 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing approximately 2.238 kg.

Manipur police seized 2.238 kg of Heroin powder and arrested three women drug peddlers at Laimaton VDF post on Tuesday.

The arrested persons were identified as Zemboi, 26, wife of Thangboi Kuki; Kim Mary Kilong, 22, wife of Kaigin and Neineng Lengthang, 35, wife of Chungkham Lenthang - all from Muktokhal, Tousem, Tamenglong District.

Police said that acting on an information that some ladies are transporting suspected heroin powder along the Old Cachar road and heading towards Jiribam, a police team led by sub-inspector T Joykumar Singh of Bishnupur police station; head constable, Gama of Laimaton VDF post under the supervision of superintendent of police, Bishnupur district conducted frisking and checking at the same VDF post.

The police team, along with women police personnel, intercepted a maroon-coloured Tata Sumo and during verification the police team detected 43 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing approximately 2.238 kg in three improvised waist bags concealed inside their clothes.

The suspected heroin powder was seized and the three women drug peddlers arrested. The seized items and arrested persons were handed over to Loktak police station.
