Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey condoles death of BSF jawan

The Manipur governor condemned the gruesome attack and dastardly act of the militants on Tuesday.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Wednesday expressed grief over the sad news of the incident in which a BSF jawan was killed and two Assam Rifles jawans were injured in an encounter with Kuki militants.

A release issued by the Raj Bhavan, Imphal, stated that the governor condemned the gruesome attack and dastardly act of the militants on Tuesday, and cautioned those involved of dire consequences. She conveyed her condolence to the bereaved family and wishes the injured jawans speedy recovery, it added.

Meanwhile, senior Congress MLA K Ranjit Singh called on the governor at Raj Bhavan and appraised the governor about the prevailing law and order situation in the state and urged her to take appropriate steps to contain violence and restore normalcy and peace, it maintained.

MLA Ranjit requested the governor to take action against the armed Kuki miscreants who are allegedly involved in attacking and killing civilians and the burning of houses in the state, including at his Sugnu assembly constituency, it continued.

He reminded the governor about the horrific incidents of firing and arson, including his residence in the Serou area recently and urged the governor to withdraw the Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement, it added.

The release informed that the governor assured the MLA that action will be taken against those involved in the attacks and all out efforts will be made to prevent further violence. She also stated that security measures which are put in place will definitely help to restore normalcy and peace in the state, it mentioned.

It stated that Bonita Pebam along with two others of the Transgender Working Group, Maruploi Foundation called on the state governor at the Raj Bhavan and urged the governor to take up action against the unlawful armed actors who are involved in killing civilians and burning down houses. They also stressed that the state government should look into the relief and rehabilitation of the internally displaced people on a priority basis and requested the governor for early restoration of internet service as well, it informed.

It continued that Salam Prasanta Singh of Sangai Trust Foundation also called on the state governor and requested to resolve the ongoing crisis inviting all stakeholders to a negotiating table. He urged the governor to take up action against the SoO group who are breaking the ground rules and requested an action plan for resettlement and rehabilitation of displaced people who have been affected by the ethnic crisis, it added.
