Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, CM Biren extend Id-ul-Fitr greetings

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey and CM N Biren on Friday extended well wishes to the people of the state, especially the Muslim community on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr which falls on Saturday.

In her message, Governor Anusuiya Uikey stated that preceded by ‘Ramadan’ the month-long fasting period, the holy festival not only spreads the message of peace, brotherhood and universal love but also entreats mankind to perform deeds of positive value to enhance our souls.

Let us also remember that we human beings inhabit only one planet and the whole world is but a single family and any strife needs to be settled through peaceful means, she mentioned. On this auspicious occasion, let us all resolve to work together to preserve and propagate the message of peace, friendship and love, she added.

CM N Biren Singh in his message also conveyed well wishes to the people on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr. Followers of Islam believe that the Holy Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad during the month of Ramzan, which is why it is considered an auspicious month, he stated. During the month of Ramadan, they hold month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting.

Id-ul-Fitr is usually celebrated by breaking the fast on the second day of Shawwal which is the tenth month of the Islamic Calendar, after the sighting of the new moon, he mentioned.

Celebrated with joy and marked with festivity, Id-ul-Fitr is observed by offering prayers at Mosques, eating delicious dishes, doing charity and exchanging gifts with friends and relatives, he added.
