Manipur government directed to produce committee’s decision on internet service

The Manipur High Court has directed the state government to inform the High Court on the feasibility of restoring internet services within Greater Imphal area.

The Manipur High Court has directed the state government to produce the relevant original file containing the deliberations and decisions of the review committee for examination by the High Court on the next date of hearing.

The review committee was constituted to entrust the task of finding a solution to provide limited internet services to the public by blocking the social media network/websites.

The HC further directed the state of Manipur to inform the High Court on the feasibility of restoring internet services within the Greater Imphal area, forthwith, unless the competent authority is of the view that, it is necessary and expedient in the interest of national security or public order to continue with the restrictions imposed on internet services in the area.

A Division Bench of Chief Justices Siddharth Mridul and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui was hearing a batch of PILs seeking restoration of internet access, when it directed the constitution of the panel.
