Manipur: Firing heard in Maphou hill range

Sounds of gunfire were continuously being heard reportedly at Maphou Hill range under Maphou dam Police Station in Ukhrul around 7.30 am on Sunday.

As per sources, some suspected bomb explosions were also heard at the Maphou hill range. However, the firing sounds stopped at 8:15 am. An exchange of gunfire also took place at Twichin Village under Yaingangpokpi Police Station at 8.22 pm, as per OC Yaingangpokpi Police Station.

Meanwhile, the situation in the state was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors during the last 24 hours, stated a release issued by the Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Sunday.  

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal East, it mentioned.

Movement of 212 vehicles along NH-2 with essential items have been ensured. Strict security measures are being taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it added.  
A total of 142 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 346 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it added.

It appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumour free number - 9233522822 of Central Control room, it stated.

It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
