The Relief Data Support Centre (RDSC), an initiative of the JNV Khumbong Alumni Association (JNVKAA), on Friday appealed the relief providers in violence-hit Manipur to fulfil the requirements needed at the relief camps.
The RDSC mentioned in a release the items required at different relief camps as per the data collected by the volunteers of RDSC. In addition to the requirement of essential commodities and utensils, the relief camps have been increasingly facing water shortage and lack of toilet facilities leading to poor hygiene and sanitation is a major issue in most of the relief camps, it stated.
RDSC stressed the need for psycho-social support from mental health professionals in the relief camps as pregnant women, lactating mother and children are under distress. In most of the camps their dietary need has been compromised and children particularly are in need of proper attention as recreational support toys are concerned, as per the data findings of RDSC, it stated.
RDSC strongly appealed to the relief providers not to come in large cavalcade along with festoons, flags and news cameras to the relief camps which are located in sensitive areas as requested.
Items listed by RDSC volunteers are water for both drinking and sanitation, fire woods for cooking, undergarments for both male and female, toiletries, mattress, blankets, kitchen utensils, ngari, chilli, first aid kits, baby foods and children’s soft toys, breakfast items, disposable cups and buckets.
It may be mentioned that RDSC was formed on May 11, 2023 to look into the requirements of the relief camps opened in various parts of the state for the stranded victims of the sudden clash in the state.
RDSC also appealed to individuals or groups intending to provide relief materials to contact the organisation for smooth relief material supply systems at their contact numbers 9402692682/ 9863731224.
Deliver relief materials to Kumbi, Senjam Khunou
IMPHAL: The Khwai Brahmapur Women's Development Committee and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) in Manipur have urged the authorities concerned to deliver sufficient relief materials for the relief camps at Kumbi Awang High School and KDU Hall, Kumbi.
The women's group further appealed to authorities to provide essential relief items for villagers at Senjam Khunou, which is a foothill village in Imphal West.
Speaking to the media at the Manipur Press Club on Friday, UNAL president Potshangbam Jayshree Devi highlighted that both women's groups had distributed various relief materials in several relief camps in the valley.
“During the distribution of relief materials, we found several relief camps in Kumbi lacking in essential materials such as food and medicines during the visit. We appeal to the authorities to look into the material disparity and extend support to the camps,” she said.
Jayshree continued that Senjam Khunou village in Imphal West was also facing shortages of essential supplies.
“Since the village borders a Kuki village, the villagers have been on high alert since the clash erupted; as such, they have guarded their village and are facing shortages of essential supplies,” she informed.
She appealed to the concerned authorities to provide the necessary items and protection for the villagers.
She further highlighted that both groups had distributed relief materials to eight camps so far and will continue to extend their service till the conflict subsides.
Relief distributed
IMPHAL: Meanwhile, the Citizens Club, Soibam Leikai Wangkhei Khunou on Friday organised a distribution of essential items including food items and toiletries as well as knick-knacks at relief camps in Imphal East.
A statement issued by Citizen Club stated that club with support from Hatta Golapati Club organised a ‘Distribution of Food Items’ which includes rice, dal, edible oil, potato, onion, common salt, vegetables, toothbrush and toothpaste, detergents and body soaps, sanitary pads and snacks for children such as biscuits, mimi and juice etc.
The relief materials were distributed at the relief camps at Nongpok Kakching village and Nongren Maning Leikai Relief camps, Imphal East which sheltered around 200 refugees, it added.
More relief items
IMPHAL: Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur on Friday visited several Relief Camps opened at various places across Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur district and distributed relief items to the individuals staying at the Camps.
FOCS visited the relief camps opened at Moirang Khunou Makha Leikai, Maning Leikai and Mayai Leikai in Bishnupur District on May 5, stated a release. The organisation also visited the camps at Keirenphabi Sporting Club and Thanga Lawai Awang Leikai Community Hall on May 10 and distributed relief items, it stated.
Its members also visited the relief camps at NB College Khundrakpam, Leitanpokpi and Nongshum in Imphal East District on May 6, 7 and 8 respectively, it mentioned FOCS, on Thursday, visited many relief camps at Keibi Kumu, Chanung and Kampat and provided relief materials, it added.
FOCS said it will continue to provide necessary help to the affected victims of the conflict and further urged the State Government to initiate appropriate measures for the welfare of the victims.
Relief items provided, health camp held
IMPHAL: The Yaiskul Volunteers Organisation (YVO) Imphal on Friday visited the relief camp housing affected victims of the prevailing conflict in the State and distributed basic relief items to them. A free health camp was also organised at the camp.
Members of the Organisation’s Covid 19 Task Force, formed in connection with the COVID 19 outbreak, resolved to carry out the activity at various relief camps opened in many places across the State on humanitarian ground considering the hardships facing those affected by the prevailing turmoil in the State, stated a release.
The team also visited the relief camp opened at Haotak and Phubala High School in Kumbi Constituency on Thursday and distributed relief items, it stated. They earlier visited the relief camps at Khuman Lampak, Goura Govinda College and Ideal College on Tuesday, it mentioned. A team of Doctors and Physiotherapists were also present during the same, wherein they conducted a free health check-up and provided medicines to the individuals at the camps, it stated.
YVO further assured to continue such activities in the remaining Relief Camps, it added.
