Manipur CPI is planning to go for a pre-poll alliance with a party that can defeat the BJP government, party state secretary L Sotinkumar said on Monday. The party is yet to decide on a candidate, but CPI will sacrifice maximum support to the party that can defeat BJP, he added.

Sotinkumar was speaking at a press conference held in Imphal on Monday. He also said that the Parliament passing a bill to repeal the three farm laws via voice vote on Monday, the first day of the winter session was a victory for India’s farmers and a defeat for the Modi-led BJP government.

The three farm laws which were officially scrapped are the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection Agreement of Price Assurance, Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

During a press conference held at Irawat Bhawan office on Saturday, state secretary, CPI-MSC, L Sotinkumar said that the repealing of three farms law after farmers from across the nation conducted an intense movement was a historic victory of the year-long spirited, inspiring and courageous struggle of the farmers.

Sotinkumar also hit out at the government for taking such a long time to take such a decision even after the struggles of farmers had claimed over 700 lives and led to the brutality of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh. The government had tried every trick to suppress the movement, but all such attempts failed.

During the seven-year rule, the Modi government has been forced by agitations to roll back its decisions and this is due to fear of losing votes in poll bound states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa, he said.

The people have witnessed how the BJP was defeated in some states where elections were recently concluded and this is one reason why the government announced to repeal the farm laws, Sotinkumar stated.

He said that the BJP-led government has done many things for rich corporations and multinationals. People have witnessed demonetisation, GST impact and now the government is trying to sell the BSNL, telecom sector to corporate, he stated.

“One family government will destroy India into pieces”, said Sotinkumar. It means the BJP wing RSS for Hindu Rashtriya will never unite India. Revolution is required in the country to defeat the Modi-led BJP government, he added.
