The All Manipur Contractors’ Forum (AMCF) appealed to the state government to release the grants-in-aid of the road construction works taken up under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

The Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency had never released the fund timely to the contractor for every work taken up under PMGSY, alleged convenor of AMCF Th Somarendro while speaking to the media on Wednesday in Imphal.

Due to delay in the release of contract work funds, the local contractors are facing hard times in the smooth running of their families, he said.

The convenor said that the central government has already sanctioned the grant-in-aid to the state government under PMGSY as a part of its first tranche of 2nd instalment (Rs 95.5 crore) and 3rd instalment (Rs 129.66 crore) of annual allocation of 2020-21 on October 29 and 27 November of 2020 respectively.

However till date the state government has not released any of the funds. “If such delay in releasing of funds continues then the PMGSY scheme may become a total failure in the state,” he said.

On behalf of all the contractors working under PMGSY, Somarandro drew the attention of the state government to release the pending fund and release the fund timely in the future.
