Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed ‘Memorial Day of Rishang Keishing’ as a part of his 4th death anniversary at Congress Bhavan, Imphal on Sunday.
MPCC also instituted an annual public lecture series in honour of Rishang Keishing called ‘Rishang Keishing Memorial Lectures’ which will be conducted every year on August 22.
Speaking at the function, leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Okram Ibobi said Rishang Keishing was a member of parliament of the first parliament session of republic India. Recalling the time he spent with the leader, Ibobi said that Rishang who was the longest serving chief minister of the State worked to maintain the integrity and unity of the state. "He was a man with a great level of patience," said Ibobi.
Member of Congress Working Committee Gaikhangam said Rishang Keishing was a legendary figure and a visionary leader. He said Rishang was a seven-time MLA when Manipur was a territory council and served as MLA for six terms after Manipur attained statehood. Rishang also served as a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, he added.
