Condemning the BJP government over the soaring prices of essential commodities, unemployment and many other issues, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) attempted to storm the Raj Bhavan on Friday but were prevented by the police from doing so.

As a part of countrywide protest which the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had resolved on July 30 to carry against price rise, unemployment, Agnipath Scheme, GST on essential commodities, MPCC also staged a protest rally from its gate with an attempt to storm at Raj Bhavan on Friday. But they were blocked by the state police from proceeding any further from their point of protest, thus leading to a confrontation.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of the protest, MPCC president K Meghachandra Singh, strongly condemned the police action of not allowing them to carry out their democratic protest and termed it ‘suppression of their constitutional rights’.

The Congress president said that the policies and programmes of the BJP-led government have given only hue and cry to the people of the state and country as well. With the advent of this government, there is continuous increase of prices of essential commodities, unemployment issues, misuse of government agencies creating lots of challenges even to common people. Condemning such anti-people policies, this nationwide protest has been held, he added.

The Congress will stand firm against such inhumane policies in the interest of people of the country, he added. During the protest, the protesters shouted slogans like ‘Down Down BJP’, ‘BJP are enemies of poor’, ‘BJP are liar’ etc.
