“Heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur on this auspicious occasion of Mera Houchongba. Celebrated on the full-moon day of the month of Mera in Manipuri lunar calendar, this festival promotes a sense of brotherhood,peace & unity among various communities living in the State,” the chief minister said in a Twitter post.

The festival also has its relevance in re-affirming the close bond and ties between hill and valley people in the State, and “it marks the solidarity among different ethnic groups in Manipur and symbolises our belief in the principle of pluralism and co-existence,” he further stated.

“Let us together reaffirm our unyielding commitment to maintain unity and harmony among our different communities,” he added.

Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh also extended warm greetings to the people of the state on the joyous occasion of Mera Houchongba.It is a festival which aims to unite the people of the state while promoting culture, traditions and sports, he stated. “May this year’s celebration of the festival bring peace, prosperity and brotherhood in the state,” he added.

Employment Minister Th Satyabrata Singh stated in his message that Mera Houchongba festival speaks of the recollection of the historic site of Kangla through a public procession and reviving integrity amongst the various hill-tribes and Meiteis of Manipur. The main significance of the festival aims on building hill-plain relationships on a strong foothold, he stated.

“I would sincerely like to convey my love and regards to every community of Manipur. Let us tighten once again the bonding and ties between hill and valley people of the state. I appeal to everyone to spread human values, social harmony and compassion in our society with a spirit of unity,” he added.
