In preparation for the upcoming General Election to the Lok Sabha 2024, scheduled for April 26, the District Election Officer/DM, Krishna Kumar, has announced the immediate sealing of inter-district borders in the jurisdiction of Tengnoupal district and its neighbouring districts.

The DEO on Tuesday stated that the decision to seal the borders comes in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India, aiming to prevent the infiltration of anti-social and disruptive elements into the constituency. The sealing of borders is also intended to ensure that no undesirable elements or arms and ammunition are transported into the constituency from outside, with enforcement agencies directed to properly man the sealed inter-district borders, the DEO added.

Effective from April 23 to April 27, 2024, movement across inter-district borders will be restricted, with only essential services, media personnel, and election-related official purposes exempted from the restriction. This measure aims to maintain the integrity and security of the electoral process in Tengnoupal District and surrounding areas.

This measure aims to strike a balance between public safety and meeting the basic needs of the population during the election period, the DM said.

Furthermore, the Indo-Myanmar International Border within the jurisdiction of Tengnoupal district has been sealed with immediate effect. This decision, prompted by Election Commission guidelines, aims to prevent any potential infiltration of undesired elements from across the border.
