Manipur Assembly Elections 2022: Candidates and their Assets | Know all about it

Several poll candidates in Manipur, including Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the Assembly Speaker, have filed their nominations and declared their assets in their poll affidavits for the ensuing 12th state Assembly elections.

As Manipur is set for the 12th state Assembly elections to be held in two phases on February 27 and March 3, several candidates, including Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the Assembly Speaker, have filed their nominations and declared their assets in their poll affidavits.

Chief Minister Biren, BJP candidate from Heingang Assembly constituency

Biren declared in his poll affidavits, both movable and immovable assets worth Rs 108,46,392. Biren’s movable assets is worth Rs 69,46,392.98. This includes Rs 1,95,000 cash in hand, a balance of Rs 58,26,872 in three bank accounts. He also owns a Mahindra bolero worth over 6 lakh, and a .32 Walter pistol. As immovable assets, Biren has Rs 39,00,000 worth, of which Rs 9,00,000 is self-acquired and inherited assets worth Rs 39,00,000. Singh has Rs 1,44,300 as liabilities (loans).

Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Y Khemchand Singh, BJP candidate from Singjamei constituency

Khemchand has assets worth over Rs 2.23 crore. Singh’s total movable assets are Rs 1,71,32,611.32 as per the affidavits which include Rs 1,50,000 cash in hand and a total of Rs 72,95,724.32 in his bank account. He owns three cars registered under his name, a Tata Zest worth over Rs 4 lakh, one Mahindra Scorpio worth over 11 lakh and one Range Rover worth over Rs 70 lakh and jewelry.

The Speaker owns a non-agricultural land of 5220 sq. ft. which is an inherited property jointly owned with five members of his family worth Rs 52,65,283. He has a total liability of Rs 59,00,002 as loans from banks. His total income shown in income-tax return for the last five financial years till March 31, 2021, is Rs 30,68,109.

Huidrom Vikramjit, NPP candidate from Yaiskul assembly constituency

The former managing director of HVS Construction Material is believed to be the richest candidate in the ensuing Assembly election of Manipur. HVS Construction Material is the biggest construction company in Manipur.

Vikramjit, however, declared that he has assets worth just over Rs 6.37 crore. His movable assets is worth Rs 1,98,96,832 and immovable assets is worth Rs 4,38,80,000, all self-acquired. The assets of his wife, Huidrom Jamini Devi, who is chairman of HVS Construction, is worth around Rs 5 crore, as per the affidavit. Jamini has Rs 74,09,649 worth of movable assets and Rs 4,20,64,000 worth self-acquired immovable assets. She has liabilities of Rs. 17,21,915.

According to the affidavit, Vikramjit’s total income in 2020-21, where his last income tax return was filed is Rs 35,12,490 and Rs 28,35,390 for his wife. Vikramjit has a total of Rs 2,75,650 as cash in hand and his wife has Rs 1,98,260 as cash in hand.

LM Khaute, JD-U candidate from Churachandpur Assembly constituency

The former DGP of Manipur declared in his affidavits assets worth Rs 6.23 crore. His movable assets are worth Rs 88,67,267, as per his affidavit. Of this, Rs 1,50,000 is cash in hand and he has Rs 79,66,631 in two different bank accounts. The former DGP owns only one car (Santro XP) is registered under his name, investments among others.

As immovable assets, Khaute has three residential buildings one at Nongpok Ingkhol; two at New Delhi (jointly owned with his spouse) which is worth Rs 5,34,68,000. Khaute has declared a bank loan of Rs 10,49,590 as a liability. Both the candidates have got no criminal records.

RK Imo Singh, MLA of Sagolband Assembly constituency

Son-in-law of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren, RK Imo Singh has a total asset worth Rs 5,10,94,917.93 as per the affidavit submitted to the returning officer (RO) of Sagolband AC in Imphal West on January 6. Imo is the son of former chief minister late RK Jaichandra Singh from 11-Sagolband Bijoy Govinda, Imphal West.

 

As per the affidavit, total assets of Imo's wife, Anjubala Nongthongbam (daughter of N Biren), is valued at Rs 2,13,20,021.60, while Imo's movable assets are worth Rs 1,14,37,779.93 and his wife's movable assets are worth Rs 52,10,021.60. Of the movable assets, Imo has a total of Rs 2,16,400 as cash in hand, while his wife has Rs 1,07,100.

In the category of immovable assets, Imo has a self-acquired property worth Rs 15,00,000 which was purchased at Rs 40,000. He also has an inherited land worth Rs 1,37,07,137 and an inherited building worth Rs 2,44,50,001. His wife has a self-acquired property worth Rs 1,61,10,000, which was purchased at Rs 40,80,010. Both Imo and his wife have liabilities as loans from the bank of Rs 44,36,391 and Rs 39,53,442 respectively.

Filing of nominations for the first phase of the upcoming Assembly elections to the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly began on February 1. Nomination papers will be received till February 8 and scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up on February 9. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 11.
