Man sent to custody for allegedly raping minor

The accused has been remanded in 15-day judicial custody till June 3 by the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal East on Friday.

A man alleged of raping a mentally disabled minor has been remanded in 15-day judicial custody till June 3 by the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal East on Friday. 

Accused Yengkhom Meghachandra, 58, son of (L) Yengkhom Khomdon of Waithou Mayai Leikai, Imphal East was arrested on May 17 in connection with the case.

The mother of the victim lodged a complaint, stating that her daughter (of unsound mind) was sexually assaulted by the accused when no one was inside the house.

She came to know of the crime on May 16 when the victim became unwell and started vomiting. 

During the police interrogation, the accused disclosed that he had sexually assaulted the girl on February 21, 2022 and further he molested the girl on February 25, 2022. 

He further disclosed that he is married with two women and has children.

After hearing the proceeding, the court stated that the accused is a womaniser and a habitual offender of crime against women. It is crystal clear that the incident was an inhuman act and the accused needs to be remanded in judicial custody for completion of investigation, the court observed and remanded him in judicial custody.
