Man carrying firearms arrested at India-Myanmar border

A man found carrying firearms and moving in a suspicious manner was arrested in Tengnoupal district near India-Myanmar border.

The joint team of Moreh Battalion 5th Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR(S) and Police Commando Moreh apprehended one man who was found carrying firearms on Wednesday.

As per sources, the Assam Rifles conducted search operation with police commando, Moreh in general areas of S Moljol and Govajang village, Tengnoupal district near India-Myanmar border.

During the operation, the teams spotted an unknown man carrying a polybag and moving in a suspicious manner in the forest area. The teams chased down and caught the man at the nearby jungle of S Moljol village at around 4.30 pm.

The person was later identified as Jangminhao Kipgen, 36, son of Lhunsei Kipgen of Govajang village, Tengnoupal district Manipur. On searching the poly bag, the teams recovered two weapons - one HK-33 assault rifle and one MA-3 assault rifle with two magazines.

The arrested person along with the recovered weapons were handed over to the Moreh police station, police said.
