Man arrested, remanded in custody for sexually assaulting two minors

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ukhrul remanded the accused in six-day police custody till October 6.

A 40-year-old man identified as one LW Phaningmi, 40, son of LW Luinam of Lunghar village of Ukhrul district, was arrested by a team of Ukhrul Police near Shirui village on October 1 for allegedly committing sexual assault on two minor girls.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ukhrul remanded him in six-day police custody till October 6. Two separate FIRs were lodged against him as he allegedly committed offences to two different minor girls. He was arrested near Shirui Village while he was travelling in his car from Lunghar Village towards Ukhrul town on October 1.

Police teams have been hunting for him following complaints lodged by the fathers of the victims on September 30 separately. As per the complaint by the fathers of the two victims, they were sexually assaulted on September 28. 

As per the complaint, the accused committed sexual assault against a minor child while she was alone in her room attending online class on September 28.

On the same day, the accused again committed the same offence against another child. Both the parents of the victim lodged complaints against the act to the Women Police Station, Ukhrul.

Officer in-Charge of Women Police Station, Ukhrul SI Vashum Meena, lodged two separate cases for each of the offences under section 448 IPC & 8 POCSO Act, 2012, and 366-A IPC & 8 POCSO Act, 2012.
