In response to the brutal murder of Lucy Maring on July 15 at Keibi Heikak Mapal Ikop Chingkhong by miscreants, a widespread sit-in protest took place at various locations across Thoubal district on Monday.
The protesters expressed their strong condemnation of the heinous crime.
One such sit-in was held at Khongjom Keithel, organised by the Khongjom Circle Co-Ordination Committee and Khongjom Circle Apunba Meira Paibi. During the protest, a woman speaker voiced suspicions of a significant underlying conspiracy behind Lucy's cold-blooded murder.
She demanded an immediate government-led inquiry to uncover the truth and bring the culprits to justice.
The protesters also expressed their deep sorrow and condolences to the bereaved family members of Lucy.
They also passionately called for the swift restoration of peace, emphasising that the people of Manipur are advocates of harmony and non-violence.

At Maring Keithel Wangjing, a sit-in protest was organized by the All Wangiing Lamding Kairembikhok Club Organisation.
The participants observed a two-minute silence to honour the departed soul of Lucy, emphasising the gravity of the loss.
Similar sit-in protests were witnessed at the grounds of City Club Heirok, organised by Heirok Apunba Clubs and Salaai Kanba Lup (SKL) in the district. These gatherings further highlighted the collective demand for justice and an end to violence.

The mass sit-in protests conveyed a strong message to the government, urging immediate action to uncover the truth behind Lucy's murder and ensure that the perpetrators face appropriate consequences.
The community also expressed their grief and unwavering commitment to maintaining peace in Manipur.
