Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 2: Polling ends peacefully in Tamenglong

EVMs reportedly malfunctioned at four polling stations and the district administration immediately replaced and repaired them to continue with the polling.

Despite the bad weather conditions and different hurdles faced by district election officers as well as polling and presiding officers, polling for the Lok Sabha Election in II Outer Parliamentary constituency went off peacefully in Tamenglong district on Friday. 

Tamenglong district has two assembly constituencies including 52-Tamei and 53-Tamenglong with 75,438 voters which include 36,636 male voters and 38,782 female voters of the two assembly segments respectively for the 2-Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary Constituency. Tamenglong district had 36 numbers of female managed polling stations. 

It may be also mentioned that Tamenglong district has eight vulnerable polling stations, namely Makiunong, Lemta, New Lemta, Nallong, Kiulong III, Katiang, Katangam and Pumram under 52 Tamei assembly constituency.

At four polling stations, EVMs reportedly malfunctioned and the district administration immediately replaced and repaired them to continue with the polling. Those four polling stations include 53/3 Tharon, 53/9 Dailong, 53/30 Nagaching, and 52/54 Namtiram. 

Meanwhile, district election officer L Angshim Dangshawa told this IFP correspondent that polling in the whole Tamenglong district went off peacefully. He said there was no poll violence reported and there will be no repolling.  

“I personally visited three-four polling stations and saw polling being carried out peacefully,” he added.    

He said that the total turnout percentage in Tamenglong district is 76.65 per cent at 5 pm. The polling percentage and turnout percentage may increase if all polling teams return and enter the records in the diaries.

Meanwhile, two first time voters, Raguliu Kamei and Tigailiu Kamei at 53/16 Tamenglong higher secondary school expressed that they are happy and excited to exercise their franchise. They also appealed to all to cast their votes in a peaceful manner. 

Another voter identified as Daniel P Kamson told the media that the polling was carried out peacefully in Tamenglong district, particularly at his 53/16 Tamenglong higher secondary school polling station. Many women came out to cast their votes, standing in line and waiting for their turns. 

After completion of voting, many polling teams including 53/23 Neigailong, 53/59 Sempang, 53/44 Ramlalong, 53/55 Tabanglong, 53/57 Upper Nungtek, 52/63 Vanchengphai 53/01 L Pabram, 53/02 Atongiuning, 53/32 Khangchiuluan etc. immediate returned and deposited their EVM safely at the mini secretariat.
