Lifeless baby with umbilical cord intact found in river

The body of a baby boy was found Thursday morning by workers at the Lanva river in Churachandpur.

The body of a male baby, about four-five months old, was found at Lanva River in the heart of Churachandpur town with the umbilical cord still intact. The lifeless baby was taken to the district hospital morgue by the Churachandpur Women Police, sources said.

According to the sources, the allegedly aborted baby was found Thursday morning by workers at Lanva river who reported it to the Lanva Youth Club who then reported it to the police.

Following the report of the youth club, the Women police, led by Addl SP Hasby Haokip and her team reached the spot around 11:40 am and took the child's body to Churachandpur district hospital morgue for further investigation.

The Women PS, Churachandpur informed that they have registered an Unnatural Death case at the WPS and are investigating the case.

Police sources informed that the dead body will be taken to Imphal from Churachandpur on Friday where a post mortem will be conducted at RIIMS and when a clearer picture emerges, the case will be further pursued.
