National Highway 37 was again blocked by another landslide, twice in a week, on Sunday after several trucks were left stranded near milestone 72 area.
According to sources, the Khongsang to Noney area along NH-37, which was blocked due to landslide/mudslide triggered by continuous rainfall on the intervening night of August 13 and 14 had been cleared on Saturday with much effort, restoring Imphal to Jiribam road.
Following this, several empty trucks were sent from Imphal to Jiribam to bring in essential commodities. However, the landslide on Sunday blocked a 40-metre stretch of the national highway leaving the trucks stranded, the sources said.
Meanwhile, NHIDCL officials are reportedly working to clear the debris and restore connectivity, the sources added.
It is also said that around 75 empty trucks will be sent to fetch goods once the route has been cleared. Meantime the goods-laden trucks which had remained stranded due to the unrest will be moved back to Imphal, the sources added.
