One of the oldest colleges in Churachandpur District, the Lamka Collage, that was established in 1976, on Monday organised its Foundation Day cum Graduation Programme at the college’s auditorium.
It was graced MLA of Thanlon AC Vungzagin Valte, who is also an alumnus of the college, as the chief guest, chairman of New Lamka Village Authority LK Mung Ngaihte as functional president while the principal of the college T Awnzagen, was the chief host.
The occasion witnessed presentations of certificates to 40 students who excelled in various departments of the college in the last examination conducted by Manipur University.
Felicitation was also made by the Lamka college authority including the alumni of the college, including the chief guest, an association professor from MU and those employees that helped the institution from its inception.
MLA Vungzagin Valte said that it was the greatest honor for him to be invited to his Alma Mater and thanked the principal of the college and his staff. He said that he will talk to the concerned Minister of education and proposed to the Lamka college administration, that an interaction program be made in the college and the Minister concerned be invited so as to boost the students of the college, taking into account that the college had the space for further development.
The chief guest, who, as a banker, was awarded the most performing SBI Bank officer all over India once, called on the students to focus on their study irrespective of the institution where they study, stating that success is all about the effort and determination of individual students.
The chief host spoke about the achievement of the college that produced officers, professors, ministers, Church pastors (all denominational churches had a criterion that all pastors had to be graduates) but informed that the college has been under staff with two peons out of three to retire next year. The principal also spoke about the misfortunes of the Lamka college which was often used as a security installation whenever civil unrest was witnessed in the district.
