Kidnapped girl, accused brought to Manipur

The 15-year-old girl allegedly kidnapped from Manipur was rescued by a team of Imphal East police from Guwahati Railway Station.

A minor girl, who was allegedly kidnapped by an individual who works as a pressure cooker and gas stove repairer, was rescued and safely brought to Manipur Monday afternoon.

The 15-year-old girl was rescued by a team of Imphal East police led by Inspector of Women Police Station, G Geetanjali, from Guwahati Railway Station.

The accused in the suspected human trafficking case identified as 29-year-old Hanslal Kumar, son of Amira Rai of Dharharwa Chiraia, East Champaran in Bihar, was also brought to Imphal on transit remand.

Police sources said that the father of the victim lodged a written report with the Officer in-Charge, Women Police Station, stating that his minor daughter was allegedly kidnapped by the accused on September 9 around 7:30 am from Mantripukhri area when she was leaving for school.

It is said that a team of police led by Inspector Gurumayum Geetanjali Devi, SI Nambram Memtu Devi, ASI Thangjam Sanjay Singh and constable Akoijam Kishorchand Singh left for Guwahati and arrested the accused person on September 11 around 01:26 pm from Guwahati Railway Station.

Later, the accused was produced before the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (M) Assam and was remanded to Transit remand for a period of four days with effect from September 11 till September 14.

Responding to queries by the media at Imphal International Airport, Inspector G Geetanjali refused to comment much but said that the statements of the victim girl as well as the accused will be recorded for further investigations.
