Khasper Death Case: Four accused released, two others to go on trial

The Session Judge, Imphal West on Wednesday released four of the six accused who were charged for killing a boy and causing grievous injuries to seven others in 2021.

The victim, Khasper Rajkumar, 17, son of (L) RK Dhanasana of Naorem Leikai, Singjamei died of firearm wounds on February 28, 2021 after a shootout that took place a day earlier at Kakwa Huidrom Leikai, Imphal West.

The court on April 12 framed charges against the six namely, Longjam Chitraranjan Apu, 40, S/o L Langkeshwor Singh; Longjam Niranjan alias Naocha Singh, 38, S/o L Langkeshwar; Longjam Manoranjan alias Mocha Singh, 35, S/o L Langkeshwar, Longjam Langkeshwor Pekto Singh, 73, S/o (L) L Iboton, Longjam Rakeshkumar Singh, 45, S/o L Achou Singh of Kakwa Huidrom Leikai in Imphal West and Longjam Achou Singh, 76, S/o (L) L Iboton Singh with mischief and voluntarily causing grievous hurt to seven persons namely, Amarjit, Bingo, Inao, Hemabati, Thoibisana, Banish and Barun.

However, as the four accused namely, Longjam Chitraranjan Apu, Longjam Niranjan alias Naocha Singh, Longjam Manoranjan alias Mocha Singh and Longjam Langkeshwor Pekto Singh pleaded guilty, the court held sentence hearing against four of them and came up with the decision.

The court, after considering the nature of the allegation against them, sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment for a period of one month with a fine of Rs 1,000/- each in default of fine to under further imprisonment of simple imprisonment for 7 days.

However, since accused Chitraranjan, Niranjan and Manoranjan have already been in custody for a period of 4 months 2 days during investigation and accused Pekto been in custody for a period of 2 months 17 days, the periods already in custody are set off from the punishment of Section 428 CrPC, the Court said.

“Since the periods already undergone exceed the terms of sentence awarded u/s 426 IPC, the four accused are not required for further detention. Their bail bonds are discharged”, said the court.

However, as the two accused namely, Longjam Rakeshkumar Singh and Longjam Achou Singh did not plead guilty for the charges against them, they will face trial for offences that had been framed against them, the Court said.
