The Kabui Union, Manipur, on Saturday observed its 6th foundation day at Majorkhul Community Hall in Imphal.
Former Union Minister of state for home affairs, prof Meijinlung Kasom; Kabui Union, Manipur, president, Dr K Hera Kabui; Kabui Customary Council, Manipur president Pou Kamei Gangmumei Kabui and Majorkhul Kabui Kailong Member, Sangpuna Paomei attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, former union minister of state for home affairs, prof Meijinlung Kasom, said that the Kabui community is one of the indigenous communities in the state. He, however, lamented the people of the community have been converting to other religions which is becoming a threat to the Kabui identity.
He also appealed to the people to cooperate in preserving the identity, culture, language and customary festival of the Kabuis.
Kabui Union president Dr Heera Kabui said that elders of the community have been preserving their identity and culture but conversion to other religions by its people has taken a toll on the identity and customary festivals.
He said that one cannot be a genuine Kabui by following a different religion. Today’s event is being held with the aim to preserve the identity of the Kabuis, he added.
