The Joint Coordinating Committee of Engineering Departments, Manipur (PWD, PHED, IFCD and MID) demanded regularisation of their staff who are working on contract basis.
In a release by the joint coordinating committee, its president T Tikendrajit Singh appreciated the decision taken by the state cabinet to regularise 2,140 staff of Manipur Health Mission Society. The government acknowledging the dedication given by the contract staff of the health department sacrificing their life shows that the government is corruption free.
However, taking such a resolution amid the pandemic situation shows that the present government is people- oriented. The committee is expecting that such a decision should also be taken for contractual staff of engineering departments. Most of the contractual staff are going to retire soon, but there has been no assurance in connection with regularisation of their jobs till date, it added.
Keeping aside all the inconveniences faced by the engineering staff on contract basis during heavy rainfall or high temperature, they engaged in construction of the roads or bridges for the welfare of people. It is unfortunate that despite committing so much in their service, not a single assurance has been given by the government in regularising their post, the release stated.
It further stated the state government should consider for regularisation of 1,026 staff of PWD, 234 staff for MID, 534 staff for PHED and 1010 staff for WRD at the earliest.
